The ability to loom over Times Square is now within reach, thanks to the launch of a website featuring 15-second rises to backlit stardom for less than $200.
Beginning at 9 a.m. EST on Thursday, December 15, anyone in search of fleeting neon glory can book a photo of their choice to be projected onto the 55-foot-wide, 31-foot-tall billboard atop the Pele Soccer Store at 1560 Broadway . 46th and 47th Streets.
“No company has ever dared to enter people’s personal realms when it comes to Times Square billboards,” claims a press release on the project.
Slots can be booked on TimesSquareBillboard.com, where icon seekers can choose a date, upload their photo, and pay $150. Thereafter the picture will appear on the sign for 15 seconds once in an hour for 25 hours on the date chosen by them. (Subscribers will receive an email with their hourly slot time after purchase.)
Ideal users include anyone who wants to wish their mom a very happy birthday, boyfriends who want to propose in a grand way, best friends who want to wish friends on a new job, prankster friends who want to prank their friends “Want to blow that up with photos from your travels,” and everyone who “wants to be famous for a day,” the release adds.
The concept comes from the mind of a Miami based attorney and welcome to times square CEO Jaime Suarez, a lifelong fan of New York City, was inspired to develop an accessible advertising opportunity after seeing “the failure of many small local businesses due to the pandemic.”
