Hillary Powell and Dan Edelstein, both 45, have transformed their living arrangements in an effort to raise money: The artist couple have attached their bedroom furnishings to the terraced roof of their London residence in a campaign to supply their block with solar panels transferred to.
“The bed itself is propped up on the fireplace and there are straps on the mattress,” Powell told Kennedy News and Media about the setup. “We had two standard lamps, but they’ve gone down for maintenance because one got blown in half by the wind and one went down through the sloping ceiling.”
Their current dwellings – which they occupy from dusk to dawn, save for a few daily chores – are akin to “living aboard a ship”, Powell offered as a comparison. During the day, they work at a desk that they have also set up above their house, while battling rain, wind and falling temperatures.
They aim to inspire people through their actions donate to their causeWhich is “to build a renewable energy station on the roofs of our East London streets and then out from there.”

Initially, they aimed to stay on the ceiling until they raised $59,000, but have since met that figure and are now seeking to double that, which they estimate will take about a month Will take time. Their 10- and 12-year-old kids, meanwhile, live in the main house downstairs.
Although unusual, roof life has generally been quite tolerable, although the weather has been challenging, Parents reports. Neighbors have been supportive, shouting words of encouragement and the pair reflect on what art they are making in themselves.
“The weather has turned a bit bad. If it happened to be too gale-y or thunderous we couldn’t cope here; “That would be absolutely dangerous,” Powell said, “that something normal and magical and joyful — that’s important even in the midst of all the gloom.”
